Tuesday afternoon five families, who once had nowhere to live, completed the Family Promise program and now have found their own place to live and their own jobs.
Family Promise of Lubbock is a local non-profit that helps homeless families with children get back on the right track.
One of those families were Stacy Rahn and her son, Rider. “When Rider was about two weeks old, we found out that we couldn’t live in our apartment anymore.”
Stacy says her story is not an ordinary one.
She says just a few months ago, she had a home and a job, but one day that all disappeared. “I don’t think anyone chooses to not have a home. Sometimes things are just out of your control. I had a full-time job, I had had one for at least a few months, and I really never been without a job so it wasn’t turning my life around, it was needing help to get my life back on track.”
She says that’s when she turned to Family Promise of Lubbock. “Every night, I would get home from work and they would be food on the table because of volunteers. Every morning, I would wake up and there be a van waiting for me in the driveway to pick me up and take me to work and take my son to day care. Without them it would’ve made life a whole lot more difficult.”
Now, Stacy has graduated from the Family Promise Program.
She has a job and more importantly a place she and her son can call home.
She plans to save her money and become a family attorney so she can hopefully get to apply her skills helping Family Promise
