Post Earth is the latest album from Los Angeles based band, FEELS. With Vocals by Laena Geronimo (the daughter of Alan Meyers of Devo), Shannon Lay providing guitars and keys, Michael Rudes on drums and Amy Allen on the bass, the band tackles topics on what is happening today, from the Trump presidency to a false sense of reality, and tells of a dark, foreboding premonition of the future.
There is scuzz guitars that reflect the sound of society today. This is prevalent in the song “Sour”. The song itself has very little lyrics, but rather it tells the story through the guitar. In the background, there are people talking, and as the song progresses, things start to get unruly, and the guitar becomes more chaotic. This represents today’s society. When a protest happens, there’s bound to be some chaos that happens. Also, with the song “Car”, the beginning song of the album, the band targets the Trump Presidency and the false sense of reality Trump has provided. This is shown in the lyrics “My friends, come with me to Candyland”, and “Just Trust what I say”.
The song that stuck out to me was Post Earth, the song on which the album was titled after. The song itself is about the billionaires of the Earth. After striping the Earth of its natural resources, the billionaires make reservations to leave the planet and going to live on Mars. The song criticizes the rich people of the world and the industry leaders of the world, with lyrics such as the “the blood is on your hands” and “and you thought it was just little things”. What I like about this song is that it could happen. If anything, this song is a wake-up call to the 1%: if they don’t fix their attitudes, we won’t have a world to live in.
This album is a great reflection on society. This album has punk roots and uses it to their advantage. The album is for people who hate what is going on today and those that want a different perspective about what’s happening today. All in all, this album was great.
