The Texas Tech Red Raiders hosted the West Virginia Mountaineers inside the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech lost 2-0 in a very physical and hard-fought match. Both teams also had to deal with bad weather as it was about 60 degrees and winds were blowing about 16 mph.
In the first half, the Mountaineers dominated the time of possession and had 3 shots on goal while Tech had none. Going into halftime it was tied up a 0-0.
To start of the second half West Virginia came out aggressive and scored a goal within the first two minutes. “she smacked it and the kid hit a good one in the back post” Head Coach Tom Stone said.
In the 63rd minute Tech was hit hard with a foul in the box and costing them a penalty kick which put Tech down 2-0. “of course, the penalty put it away” Stone said.
The Red Raiders start off conference play 0-1 with a 8-2 overall record, but have an opportunity on Sunday at 12 P.M. to get their first conference win of the season as they host Iowa State.
