LUBBOCK — The Texas Tech Red Raiders hosted the Oregon State Beavers inside the John Walker soccer complex looking for their 6th win of the season and trying to stay undefeated home. “We feel like you should protect your home turf and you should get as many wins as possible”. Coach Tom Stone said.
In the first half, the Red Raiders dominated possession and played lights out defensively only allowing the Beavers to take one shot. For Tech in the first half they were aggressive and took 8 shots allowing Freshman Defender Cassie Hiatt to score in the 11th minute.
For the rest of the game the Red Raiders kept the same level of intensity which lead to them scoring 3 more goals in the 2nd half two of which came from Sophomore Forward Ally Griffin and another from Senior Forward Gwennie Puente. “I knew they needed me to shut this game out” Griffin said.
Tech Improves to a 6-1 record on the season with a 4-1 win and will now go on the road for their next 2 games to face California State- Northridge and Loyola Marymount. Tech comes back home September 21st to host the West Virginia Mountaineers for their first game in Big 12 play.
