Trump Judicial Nominee Draws A Blank At Senate Hearing

Matthew Peterson

(Washington, DC)  —  President Trump’s latest nominee to the federal bench isn’t scoring many legal points.  Matthew Peterson had difficulty answering even basic legal questions at his Senate hearing this week.  A five-minute video of his grilling by the Senate Judiciary Committee quickly went viral, drawing more than three-million views.  Peterson, who is a lawyer, also admitted he had never handled a jury trial or argued a motion and doesn’t have any background in litigation.  He’s currently a member of the Federal Election Commission and also served as counsel to the Republican National Committee.
