(Washington, DC) — President Trump is declaring a state of emergency in California. Today the president ordered federal assistance to aid state and local response to wildfires wreaking havoc on the southern part of the state. Thousands of residents have been forced to leave their homes as flames engulf more than 200-thousand acres of land. The National Weather Service is offering little optimism, saying the hot, dry Santa Ana winds could continue to fuel the flames for several days. A red flag warning, indicating critical fire conditions, was extended through Sunday night for Ventura and Los Angeles counties. President Trump’s declaration will enable FEMA to coordinate disaster relief efforts in California.
