(San Marcos, TX) — The San Marcos Police Department is identifying the suspect in Monday’s fatal shooting of a police officer.
An arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday for 51-year-old Stewart Thomas Mettz, who is accused in the death of 58-year-old Officer Kenneth Copeland. Copeland was shot multiple times when he and several other officers were ambushed as they tried to serve an arrest warrant at Mettz’s home.
Mettz was also shot during a SWAT standoff, and will be jailed as soon as he gets out of an Austin hospital.
