(Ventura, CA) — Firefighters battling strong winds are gaining ground on a series of wildfires burning across Southern California.
The largest blaze is the Thomas Fire in Ventura County which has burned over 148-thousand acres north of Los Angeles. Milder winds allowed firefighters to slow the growth of the fire which is now 15 percent contained.
A 70-year-old woman has been confirmed as the first fire-related death. Her body was found in a crashed car along an evacuation route in Ventura County.
