(San Francisco, CA) — A deaf-owned and operated San Francisco restaurant is set to become a franchise to help bridge the deaf employment gap across the nation. The owners of the Mission’s Mozzeria Pizzeria are working on expansion plans and are creating training materials in American Sign Language. They plan to hire and train the hearing-impaired, as 70 percent of deaf Americans are unemployed or underemployed. Mozzeria will be the first-of-its-kind deaf-run franchise.
