(San Francisco, CA) — The defense for the man accused of killing Kate Steinle is questioning the integrity of a witness for the prosecution. Former SFPD crime-scene-investigator John Evans is being sued for allegedly misrepresenting evidence in a separate 2007 murder case. The 2007 suspect was found not guilty after six years in jail. The Steinle-case defense argues that they should have been informed that Evans has been sued, while the DA’s office counters that pending lawsuits are not an automatic credibility threat.
