(Bowling Green, KY) — The wife of Republican Senator Rand Paul says her husband hasn’t taken a single breath without pain since he was attacked earlier this month.
Kelley Paul told CNN that she and her husband haven’t spoken to neighbor and accused attacker Rene Boucher in more than ten years, beyond a “casual wave from the car.”
Paul says the two were not in a dispute, as media accounts have claimed. She said Boucher ran down the hill on their shared property line and “slammed his body” into the senator’s lower back as he stood facing away, wearing noise-cancelling headphones while mowing the lawn.
Paul said that this Thanksgiving weekend, her husband will be in pain, not “playing golf with his sons or enjoying his annual touch football game with family and neighbors.” Boucher plead not guilty to misdemeanor assault in court earlier this month. Kelley Paul did not offer a motive for the attack.
