(Austin, TX) — The state is going after 127 Texas gasoline retailers who reportedly price-gouged during and after Hurricane Harvey.
The Consumer Protection Division of the Texas Attorney General’s office has sent warning letters to stations that reportedly charged three-99 or more for a gallon of gas. Some gas stations reportedly charged up to eight-99 a gallon during Harvey. The letter warns them they could be found in violation of state laws against profiteering during a declared emergency.
The law carries a fine of up to 20-thousand dollars per incident.
