(Washington, DC) — “Appalling.” That’s how House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi describes President Trump’s comments about China and trade.
During a Capitol briefing today, Pelosi said Chinese leaders must be enjoying a good laugh. In Beijing, the President said he doesn’t blame China for the big trade imbalance with the U.S. and he gave China “great credit.”
Trump added, “Who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens?” Trump blamed past U.S. presidents for the trade imbalance.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson later said Trump’s comments were meant to be “tongue-in-cheek.”
