Multiple people were killed after a gunman opened fire in a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on Sunday, officials said.
Law enforcement sources have reported that a single shooter walked into the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs and opened fire, killing at least 20 people and injuring at least 30 more.
According to Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Robert Murphy, the shooter was killed after a brief chase north into neighboring Guadalupe County. At this time, it is unclear if the shooter was killed by police or took his own life, Murphy said.
Wilson County, Texas Commissioner Paul W. Pfeil said he did not have a total count of the number of dead in the shooting, but he said it was “more than 20.”
Governor Greg Abbott said on Twitter: “Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response.”
