FBI Tries To Unlock TX Shooter’s Cell Phone

(Sutherland Springs, TX)  —  Texas authorities are trying to unlock a cell phone belonging to the Texas church shooter.

Freeman Martin with the Texas Department of Public Safety wouldn’t identify the type of phone, but said it’s in the hands of the FBI.

Agent Christopher Combs said authorities have yet to access the phone, highlighting the issues of technology and encryption that can be barriers in an investigation. He said it had been sent to Quantico, Virginia for analysis. Martin did say they won’t be going into details today regarding a motive behind the shooting on Sunday in Sutherland Springs that killed 26 people.

Martin highlighted that police have already discussed how the shooter had a dispute with his mother-in-law, and how the mother-in-law attended the church. However, Martin did remark that there’s no evidence of any political or religious motivation behind the attack.  Martin warned the crime scene is massive and that investigators have been on site for only 48 hours.

They hope to wrap up the investigation at the church by tomorrow.
