Family, Friends Gather To Remember Victims Of Flight 587 Crash

(Belle Harbor, Queens) — Family, friends and elected officials are remembering the 16th anniversary of the crash of flight 587 in Belle Harbor Queens. A memorial was held Sunday for the 265 people lost their lives when a plane that had just departed JFK airport crashed into the Queens residential neighborhood.

 

Bells tolled to mark the victims lost. The crash which occurred two months after September 11th, rattled New Yorkers’ nerves. Officials say the cause was not terrorism, but due to mechanical problems.
