(San Juan, PR) — The staggering debt load on top of Puerto Rico could be lessened by hurricane relief. The U.S. territory filed bankruptcy in May because of its 73-billion-dollar debt burden, making it the biggest U.S. municipal bankruptcy in history. Yesterday, President Trump said Puerto Rico owes a lot of money to Wall Street and that “We will have to wipe that out.” He told Geraldo Rivera on Fox News he didn’t know if the debt was to Goldman Sachs, “but whoever it is, you can wave goodbye to that.” Hurricane Maria left the entire island of Puerto Rico without power or water.
