The lockdown has been cleared on Texas Tech campus after a suspected shooter was taken into custody by Lubbock police. The campus is cleared and police are asking students to avoid the north side of campus.
Texas Tech was placed on lockdown for over an hour Monday night after a TTU police officer was shot and killed at the campus police headquarters.
After a call for a “welfare check” lead campus officers to a room where they found drugs and drug paraphernalia, officers attempted to bring the student to the station. It was then that the suspect pulled a gun and shot an officer in the head. The officer who was shot is now deceased.
The suspect then fled on foot, and a shelter in place was called just before 8 p.m.
Authorities report the suspect has been identified as Hollis Daniels, who was apprehended around 9:30 p.m. after a search of campus by local law enforcement.
