(Charlottesville, VA) — Breastfeeding may reduce a baby’s risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
A study from the University of Virginia found that a baby’s risk of SIDS is cut in half if the mother breast feeds for at least two months.
The study also found that babies have even more protection the longer they are breastfed. Researchers said immune benefits and effects on infant sleeping patterns from breastfeeding could be factors. SIDS is the leading cause of death of babies between one month and one year old.
