(Washington, DC) — The Washington Monument will remain closed to visitors at least until some time in 2019.
That’s the word today from the National Park Service as work continues to fix the Monument’s problems, including chronic elevator woes.
The Monument has been closed since this past August 17th and a National Park Service spokesman says even if there is proper funding for repairs, he doesn’t see the Monument reopening until the 2019 cherry blossom season.
The president of a charity group supporting philanthropist David Rubinstein tells the “Washington Post, “It does seem like it’s a long period of time. Just know that the Park Service is moving as fast as it can.”
