(Austin, TX) — The state of Texas is moving ahead with plans to require the cremation or burial of fetal remains, putting new requirements by the Health and Human Services Commission into effect December 19th.
The rules that will almost certainly be challenged in court prohibit hospitals, abortion clinics and other medical facilities from disposing of remains in sanitary landfills.
In the final version of the directives filed yesterday in Austin, the agency says the costs of the funeral or cremations will be paid by the medical facilities and not the patients.
Critics say the Abbott administration is playing politics with people’s private health care decisions.
