Changes Review

Kevin Krauter released his debut EP, Magnolia, back in 2015. And for the fans eagerly awaiting his return, he is finally back with some new jams. Changes, coming out just in time for the winter, features all the pleasing indie folk qualities that you’ve come to expect from him and brings back nostalgic feeling of trips through the rocky mountains and content, overcast winter nights.

Often, Kevin Krauter has a mellowed- out, Kurt Vile type sound; but also features Latin influenced guitar that we hear and love from artists such as  Jose Gonzales. Although he can be compared to other artists, the unique, dream-like melodies found on his new album set him apart from all the others. Along with this, he has a range of different vocal styles that complement each other very well. At certain times the vocals are raw and show his deeper relaxed hums, while at other times he uses a high pitched, silvery tone. Together, these two styles create a pleasant array of sounds and emotions

Kevin Krauter’s mellifluous guitar melodies are almost dream-like, with an airy resonance that can be heard in many tracks including “Fantasy Theme”, a song released as a single before the release of Changes. Throughout the song you can hear his smooth voice and “fantasy” like instrumentals. Other tracks throughout the album also display the same qualities, and even introduce some bossa nova style guitar playing.
The perfect follow up to Magnolia, Changes appeals to anyone who enjoys any kind of indie folk or folk rock. While keeping the same mellowness you have grown accustomed to, this new album also introduces a new, original sound that will catch your attention and keep you hooked.
