Album Review: Two Vines

unknownImage the world when nature has salvaged the planet and reclaiming its home. Lush greens covering our major cities, making Earth alive again. This is exactly the picture that Aussie electro-pop duo, Empire of the Sun paints in their third album Two Vines. The album has a theme of the want for prosperity and hope for something better.

The production that is Empire of the Sun continues to grow. Building on the lush and vibrant sounds of their previous albums, Two Vines draws us further into paradise. The smooth nostalgic tracks portray the features of a very verdant world. With collaborations with many different artists this vision is created beautifully. Guest appearances include Wendy Melvoin from Princes The Revolution, Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac, and Henry Hey and Tim Lefebvre From David Bowies Blackstar.

Tracks like “High and Low”, “Friends”, and “Way to Go” reminisce on the sound that they have created in the past. The colorful guitar, catchy drumbeats, and booming bass are all true to the roots of Ice on the Dune and Walking on a Dream. In the track “To Her Door” lyrics such asI feel better when we are together /I know it’s simple but I don’t care /I tried to say the things to make up for the mess I’ve caused” reveal a love story. The song speaks to those who have hurt a love one and are trying to reach out to the one they have hurt.

Empire of the Sun is a band that has grown tremendously since their first album. Their sound, their vision, and their production have all flourished. They discuss important issues and present it in such a beautiful way. Their groovy psychedelic pop tunes generate a sense of relentless hope.
