- A one-vehicle accident this morning in south Lubbock left some LP and L customers without power. KCBD reports the wreck happened about 9 a.m. on Slide Road between 38th and 39th streets when a red Pontiac Vibe crashed into a utility pole. Witnesses said the driver, who appeared to have his eyes closed, was headed southbound and almost hit several vehicles. Traffic was diverted as crews completed repairs and The LP and L website showed all power was restored by early this afternoon.
- Games, rides and fried foods are on the horizon as Lubbock prepares for the 2015 Panhandle South Plains Fair. The weeklong event begins this Thursday and admission is $9 for adults and children 13 and over, $5 for children 2 to 12 and free for kids under 2. Entertainment will include musical performances by the Swon Brothers and T-Pain, and appearances by a ventriloquist and Rock-It, a 9-foot-tall robot. - Also this weekend, Texas Tech opens Big 12 Conference play when the Red Raiders host No. 3 ranked TCU at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday at Jones Stadium. The sold-out game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports. According to www.texastech.com, it’s the fourth game of the season for both teams. Texas Tech is looking to start its season at 4 and 0 for the fourth time in the last five years. A Texas Tech win on Saturday would match the Red Raiders’ victory total from last season. The last time Texas Tech defeated a top-5 ranked team was on Oct. 13, 2012 when the Raiders beat No. 4 ranked West Virginia 49 to 14 at Jones Stadium. TCU enters Saturday’s game on an 11-game win streak dating back to the 2014 season and was picked by Big 12 coaches to win the league in 2015.
