- Former President George W. Bush hosts a golf tournament today in Las Colinas, where service members wounded since the September 11th terrorist attacks will gather. The Warrior Open is part of the Military Service Initiative at the Bush presidential library in Dallas. The winner will be invited to play in the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe in July.
- Planned Parenthood is in the spotlight on Capitol Hill. The organization is under fire over the harvesting of fetal tissue for research. Opening a House hearing, Utah Republican Jason Chaffetz questioned Planned Parenthood’s need for federal dollars. He called the group a “political organization.” A series of undercover videos raised questions about the group’s practices, prompting Republican efforts to strip government funding from Planned Parenthood. Maryland Democrat Elijah Cummings argued that the videos were manipulated and twisted to distort the truth. He argued that Planned Parenthood clinics provide vital healthcare services to women across the U.S. Ohio Republican Jim Jordan said the GOP wants to take the group’s government funding and give it to community health clinics. New York Democrat Carolyn Maloney accused Republicans of doubling down on a war against women.
