  • Lubbock Police are investigating a Monday night accident after a man was hit by a truck in the 800 block of Avenue Q. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports that 62-year-old David Smothermon has died of injuries sustained in the accident. Police said Smothermon was walking westbound across Avenue Q at about 10:02 p.m. when he was struck by a 2010 Ford F-350 box truck that was traveling north. There were no other injuries reported in the accident. 
  • The Goin’ Band from Raiderland hopes to hear they won an off-the-field competition against Baylor when Texas Tech faces the Bears on the football field this weekend. The marching band has just one more week to sign up potential donors with Be The Match, an international bone marrow registry. KCBD reports donors can sign up at the SUB from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Wednesday in the Canyon Room or Thursday in the Lubbock Room. Registration can also be completed online through Saturday at bethematch.org with the promo code “ttuband.” Registered donors must be between 18- and 44-years-old and generally in good health. Participants will have their cheeks swabbed to provide a DNA sample, which determines compatibility between donor and recipient. The winner will be announced at halftime Saturday at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
  • In more football news, Homecoming Week is just around the corner and will feature several free events for students. The week kicks off at 11 a.m. on Monday at the SUB North Plaza where students are invited to create photo keychains with their friends and grab freebies like food and t-shirts.  On Tuesday, students can show off their gamer skills at the video game arcade and then support their favorite organization as they compete in singing and dancing competitions.
