Letting go of Safe Ride and parking tickets were among many topics discussed during SGA’s 2015 executive candidate forum.

External Vice Presidential Candidates Ben Sharp and Caleb Fisher

External VP candidates: Ben Sharp and Caleb Fisher, both are pushing for the elimination of Safe Ride and wanting to replace that system with Uber.

Both candidates agree that the cost would be less and efficient, also students would not have to wait 45 minutes for the bus but only 15minutes for services of Uber.

If elected, Sharp would rather have students pay time in community service instead of $25 for each ticket they receive in parking violations.  Giving back to the community is what he wants to bring if elected.

His opponent, Caleb Fisher sees the opposite.  Keep the parking tickets and give more awareness to the students of parking controlled areas.  Fisher believes the parking services do a lot in keeping the campus regulated and would maybe push towards creating new parking lots.

Internal Vice presidential candidates Valerie Briley and Amber Yanez

Valerie Briley, a marketing major would like to see this position as Internal Vice President to service the students and not micro manage the senators.  Briley would also like to see SGA branding around campus and be solely for the senators to make sure they are working for the students.

Amber Yanez,  currently acting journal clerk, Yanez is wanting more transparency in the SGA.  Having social networking and mobile offices to get students motivated and aware of what they want out of their SGA members.

Presidential Candidates Charlie Mitchell and Holton Westbrook

Holton Westbrook, an Agriculture Economics major wants his number goal if elected president is to work heavily with administration and making sure that they keep good relationships.  Westbrook also spoke on working more with the International Multi Cultural center and making sure their transitions are smooth.

Charlie Mitchell, a Petroleum Engineer major would like to see the blue light system replaced and wanting SGA to have a new program using the social media platform SnapChat, so student could communicate with SGA members  about their complaints.   During the debate, Mitchell stated that he does not want to have  a career in politics and does not care if he is elected or not.

Graduate Vice Presidential Candidate Saba Nafees

Saba Nafees is studying Mathematical Biology and would like to pursue more assistantships for international students wanting to study at Texas Tech.  Nafees wants to make sure that more and more opportunities are available to graduate students.

Election voting will be open March 4 and 5.
