It came down to penalty kicks for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Texas Longhorns, in which the Longhorns defeated the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas.
Sophomore Megan McCullough scored Tech’s lone goal in the 1-1 tie in the match. Although the game is marked as a tie, Texas will go on to play West Virginia in the next round of the championship.
According to TexasTech.com, coach Tom Stone said after the match, “The whole game for us came down to the first half. We did not play well in the first half at all. I thought our second half was pretty typical of how we’ve played down the stretch – hungry, aggressive and first to the ball. We scored a phenomenal goal from Megan McCullough and it was our game to win from that point.”
The soccer team will find out if they will receive a bid to the NCAA Championship on Monday. The NCAA will be hosting a selection show that will be broadcast on NCAA.com at 3:30 p.m.
