According to Texastech.com, Texas Tech volleyball players Rachel Brummitt and Lauren Douglass have, again, earned Big 12 Weekly awards. Douglass was named Co-Rookie of the Week, while Brummitt was named Defensive Player of the Week. The awards come after the Red Raiders won the Lone Star Showdown, defeating Abilene Christian, Weber State, and Air Force this past weekend. Brummitt, who set both a Tech and Big 12 record for her 71 digs this weekend, has earned this award for the fifth time., the last being September 8, 2014. Douglass was named MVP of the tournament, and over the weekend, moved into first place in the Big 12 in hitting percentage. The Red Raiders begin conference play Wednesday at the United Supermarkets Arena.

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti [[ bih-SHOT-ee ]] is questioning the accuracy of an ESPN “Outside the Lines” report about the team’s handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case. Bisciotti says the report is based on sources close to Rice who are trying to get him reinstated by making everyone else look bad. The team released Rice and the league suspended him indefinitely after TMZ released the surveillance footage of him knocking out his now-wife inside the elevator earlier this month. ESPN also reported that Bisciotti sent a string of texts to Rice after he was released saying that he would have a job with the organization once his playing career is over.

Speaking of domestic violence, NBA commissioner Adam Silver says the league is learning from the NFL’s mistakes on how to handle domestic violence issues. ESPN reports that officials will look at current policies on domestic violence and amend and change accordingly if needed. Silver also said the league is looking to “enhance” its rookie transition programs by including domestic abuse talks in the programs and in team awareness meetings.

The season is over for Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch [[ TULL-ick ]] after he injured himself while celebrating a sack. The team has placed Tulloch on season-ending injured reserve with an ACL injury. He fell to the ground with an apparent left knee injury in the Lions’ 16-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers after sacking quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He was attempting his version of Rodger’s “Discount Double Check” celebration.
