LUBBOCK – For a game many considered an easy win, Central Arkansas proved they were not going down without a fight.
The Red Raiders opened the season with a victory over the Bears, winning their 12th straight home opener.
Despite two interceptions by Davis Webb, the sophomore quarterback threw for 452 yards in front of a crowd of over 60,000.
Senior wide receiver Bradley Marquez had 11 receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns, including a reception for 70 yards.
Tech capitalized on the ground as well. DeAndre Washington ran for 104 yards on 20 attempts, a career high for the junior running back.
Central Arkansas quarterback Taylor Reed went 19-of-33, throwing for 140 yards in the game.
Penalties were a factor against the Red Raiders, who racked up 15 for 114 yards.
Despite the win, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said the teams efforts on the field Saturday were “embarrassing,” saying it is his fault for their bad play.
Texas Tech’s next outing is against the University of Texas – El Paso on September 6 in El Paso.
