The Cowboys defense took another hit Thursday.

The NFL suspended defensive back Jakar Hamilton for four games for violating league rules on substance abuse.

His suspension comes a few weeks after cornerback Orlando Scandrick was suspended four games for violating league rules on performance-enhancing drugs.

Hamilton is competing for a spot on the Cowboys’ 53-man roster.

According to ESPN Dallas, because this is his second violation, Hamilton will stay in Stage Two for 24 months and could be subjected to random drug tests up to ten times a month.

Because of the suspensions of Scandrick and Hamilton, according to league rules, the Cowboys must pay a fine of $44,000, a combined portion each player’s salary.

Dallas opens the season September 7 versus the San Francisco 49ers.
