The Dallas Stars lost to the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in a shootout Sunday night. Oilers forward David Perron scored the game deciding goal in the second round of the shootout. Stars forward Rich Peverley also scored in the second round of the shootout.
Stars forward Ryan Garbutt scored the first goal in the game shorthanded with 8:23 left in the second period. Oilers forward Ales Hemsky tied the game scoring a goal with 5 seconds left in the second period. Stars forward Garbutt scored again with 16:15 remaining in the third period. Oilers defenseman Andrew Ference tied the game with 6:07 left in the third period. Oilers forward Jordan Eberle scored the first goal in the shootout.
Neither team was able to score on 10 combined power plays.
Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen made 30 saves out of 32 shots sent his direction. Oilers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves out of 29 opportunities and Oilers backup goalie Devan Dubnyk was able to make 15 saves out of 16 shots.
Bryzgalov was injured during the game when Garbutt accidentally hit him in the head after Bryzgalov made a save when Garbutt was sweeping in front of the net. Bryzgalov was taken out of the game out for precaution.
Stars forward Garbutt has a career season high 5 goals scored with the 2 goals tonight. Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak played his first game this season in this game taking the place of veteran defenseman Stephane Robidas.
