LUBBOCK- Robert Turner went five of six from three point land and had 21 points to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders past the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 88-68.

Turner, a transfer from New Mexico Junior College, led all scorers with 21 points.

“Once you hit the first one,” Turner said. “You know the second one is going up.”

The Red Raiders were able to hold the Lumberjacks to 41.8 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Luke Adams drew multiple charge calls and managed to steal a pass. He would miss the layup on the fast break, but was fouled. Adams made the free throw.

Head coach Tubby Smith alluded to Adams tough play and leadership. Smith also mentioned that it was a special day.

“We’re happy to get the win on this special day, Veterans Day,” Smith said. “It’s always very important, very close to me.”

Smith thanked everyone who contributed service to the country.

Four players including Turner had double digit points. The Red Raiders biggest lead was 28 in the second half. Junior forward Jordan Tolbert was on his way to a double-double when coach Smith pulled the starters. Tolbert finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in 25 minutes.

The Red Raiders are 2-0, but more difficult challenges lie ahead. Tech’s next game is a part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Red Raiders travel to Tuscaloosa Thursday to play the Alabama Crimson Tide.
