(Plano, TX) — The Liberty Institute is trying to get Craig James rehired at Fox Sports.
The Plano-based legal group believes James was fired by Fox because of his comments on gay marriage during his failed 2012 U.S. Senate run.
A Fox spokesperson told “The Dallas Morning News” on September 6th that James “couldn’t say those things here.”
A Liberty Institute spokesperson says James doesn’t hate homosexuals, pointing out he hired an openly-gay man to run his Senate campaign because he was the best person available. They also point out Fox Sports sought James out, not vice versa.
Liberty Institute says the firing violates part seven of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
James made one appearance on Fox Sports before he was let go.
Texas Tech fans may recall that Craig James is the father of Adam James, a former receiver for the Red Raiders. Alleged mistreatment of Adam by Mike Leach led to his dismissal as head football coach at Texas Tech in December of 2009.
A former football player for SMU, Craig James has also been a sports commentator on the ABC and ESPN TV networks.
