The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Dallas Cowboys 17-16 to stay perfect at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns while the Chiefs defense held strong pressure to maintain their victory. Runningback Jamaal Charles ran for 55-yards and caught a touchdown pass just minutes into the fist quarter.
The Chiefs defense forced Dan Bailey to kick a 51-yard field goal to get on the board. Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant made a 38-yard diving catch soon after, then caught a two yard leading touchdown pass from Tony Romo. The Cowboys blocked Ryan Succop’s 57-yard field goal attempt to carry their lead into halftime.
The Chiefs defense held strong to Cowboys pressure in the third quarter, forcing a 30-yard field goal attempt by Bailey, putting the Cowboys in the lead 13-7.
To begin the Chiefs comeback Alex Smith hit wide receiver Donnie Avery for a 31-yard gain. Capping off the drive, Smith found wide receiver Dwayne Bowe for a 12-yard touchdown catch to give Kansas City a 14-13 lead late in the third quarter.
The Cowboys managed to fumbled twice on its next possessions. Then Dallas defense quickly stiffened, forcing a 40-yard field goal. With three minutes left in the fourth, Dan Bailey kicked a 53-yard field goal.
The Chiefs are off to a 2-0 start for just the second time since 2005.
