After a warm week across all of west Texas, temperatures get kicked up ‘another notch’ this weekend. High temperatures may exceed 100° across the city of Lubbock on Saturday afternoon. East of the escarpment, highs between 101° and 104° are expected.
If headed outdoors, take precautions to prevent heat-related illness. If at all possible, wait to conduct outdoor activities until later in the evening, when temperatures begin to decrease. But, if you must head out during the afternoon, do the following:
* Drink plenty of water.
* Wear sunscreen, and/or long sleeved clothing to avoid sunburn.
* Try to find shade, where temperatures can be 10°- 20° degrees cooler than in the sun.
Hot weather will be in the forecast through most of next week, before a potential cool down next Thursday.
