After a few cool days leading up to the Fourth of July holiday, heat has returned to the South Plains. This is because an area of ‘high pressure’ that brought record-breaking heat to the desert southwest has recently edged slightly closer to west Texas. The dry, sinking, air underneath this high pressure system is causing lower rain chances and hot afternoon temperatures.
High temperatures will remain in the 90’s through the upcoming work-week. In fact, Lubbock may approach 100 degrees, during the afternoon, by late this week or next weekend.
However, another possible cool down and better rain chances loom on the horizon. Hopefully the upcoming heat will not last long. Current drought conditions have worsened, and there is still a lot of summer to get through.
