Your Weekend Forecast

After a hot and dry week across west Texas, a transition to a more unsettled weather pattern is underway. Higher moisture levels moved into the South Plains Thursday morning, allowing for slightly cooler afternoon highs.

As moisture continues to increase, the chance of showers and thunderstorms will also be on the rise. Most of the storm activity will begin southwest of Lubbock, around noon Friday. However, rain will expand in coverage and move across the rest of the area through Friday evening.

Scattered thunderstorms will stay in the forecast through Saturday afternoon. A few of these storms could produce heavy rainfall, especially across the southern South Plains and off of the Caprock. However, severe weather is not expected. By Sunday, rain chances will be limited to the late afternoon, as thunderstorms form over the mountains of New Mexico and move towards west Texas.

Highs will be in the 80’s Friday and Saturday, but should warm into the 90’s on Sunday, along with more sunshine.
