Thursday’s Forecast

After a wet few days across the South Plains, rain chances have begun to decrease.

A ridge of high pressure will build into west Texas, leading to fewer daily thunderstorms, beginning today. However, there is still a slight chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, mainly across the western South Plains, late today. However, once storms develop, they will move north and east, towards the greater Lubbock metro this evening.

A few storms could be strong, with large hail and damaging winds. Storms will also produce copious amounts of lightning. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. If thunder roars, go indoors!

Outside of thunderstorms, highs will be in the mid 90’s under partly cloudy skies. Winds will be gusty in the afternoon, possibly causing isolated patches of blowing dust across rural areas.

Lower rain chances and even warmer temperatures are expected this weekend!
