Near record breaking temperatures will continue into the first weekend of ‘summer’. Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 90’s to 100° once again, while Sunday may be a few degrees cooler; in the mid 90’s.
Partly cloudy skies will continue as well, with patchy fog possible both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Areas east of the escarpment are most likely to experience areas of locally dense morning fog.
Afternoons will be very warm, with a gusty southwesterly breeze of 20-30 mph. Gusty winds could create areas of blowing dust. Due to the hot, dry, and windy weather, fire weather conditions will be quite severe across the western two-thirds of the South Plains. Do not have open outdoor flames this weekend. There is a very slim chance of afternoon thunderstorms east of Lubbock. A few of these afternoon storms could be strong to severe with small hail, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.
Remember to drink plenty of water and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day; 1-6 PM.
