Wednesday’s Forecast

A southerly wind and warmer temperatures return to the South Plains today. High temperatures will range from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s across the area. In the city of Lubbock, afternoon temperatures will top-out in the lower 90’s.

Winds will be a bit gusty in the afternoon, possibly gusting 20-30 mph near sunset, before tapering off by 9 PM. Breezy conditions could lead to isolated areas of blowing dust, especially across rural locations outside of Lubbock.

This wind will help usher moisture back into west Texas, from the Gulf of Mexico. Moisture, in combination with a developing dry-line and a stalling cold front, will cause storm chances to increase beginning Thursday. Some thunderstorms will likely be severe both Thursday and Friday afternoons.
