Thanks to much higher moisture levels this morning, low clouds have moved into much of the South Plains. However, as we head through the day, the ‘dry-line’ will move eastward, as it does so, clouds will clear out behind it.
This afternoon, Lubbock will top out in the upper 80’s to near 90 degrees under partly cloudy skies. There is a chance of isolated severe thunderstorms ahead of the dry-line; east of Lubbock. Here in the Hub City, expect warm & breezy conditions to last into the evening.
Rain chances will increase area-wide late Thursday, through Saturday morning. A slow moving cold front will interact with higher moisture levels and weak upper level disturbances, to produce rounds of showers and thunderstorms through the first half of Saturday. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but a few storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Any rain that the area receives will be very beneficial, as we are currently experiencing ‘extreme’ and ‘exceptional’ drought conditions! Due to the increase in rain and cloud cover, temperatures will cool after the very warm afternoon we’ll experience today, with readings in the 70’s likely by Friday afternoon, through the weekend.
