Warm temperatures will continue into Thursday, though Thursday afternoon highs will not be as warm as Wednesday’s; likely in the lower 80’s. Thursday will begin muggy with low clouds, especially off of the Caprock.
By Thursday afternoon, a stalling cold front, combined with higher moisture levels will cause scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop in the heat of the day. Some of the storms could be strong to severe, with large hail and damaging winds, especially northeast of Lubbock.
Even better rain chances arrive Thursday night and will stay in the forecast through early Saturday morning. Depending on where the slowing cold front actually stalls, portions of the South Plains could see heavy rainfall accumulations. Stay tuned.
