Thursday’s Forecast

Cold weather and windy conditions will be present across the city of Lubbock for the next 24-36 hours. Thursday will begin in the mid 30’s across the Hub City, with a gusty north wind that will knock wind chills down into the 20’s and 30’s. There will be low clouds and a few areas of mixed precipitation around town through mid morning. Accumulations are not expected in Lubbock, but make sure to slow down and leave plenty of space between you and the driver in front of you if damp road conditions are present.

Clouds will slowly clear out by Thursday afternoon, but temperatures will remain on the cold side. Highs will only make it into the mid and upper 40’s, thanks to a cold Canadian air mass that will filter into the region through the day. Strong winds, gusting over 40 mph, will create areas of blowing dust through early evening, before winds calm down Thursday night.

Friday morning will be very cold, with lows in the upper 20’s inside the city limits; even colder in rural areas.

Grab hot chocolate and a jacket, because for the time being temperatures will be more typical of December’s values, not May’s!
