Monday’s Forecast

Our daily pattern of warm temperatures,  partly cloudy skies, and gusty afternoon winds will continue for at least one more afternoon. Highs today will top-out in the lower 90’s across the city of Lubbock over the next few hours.

At the same time, winds will pick up and become gusty later this afternoon, before diminishing after sunset. Rain chances are near zero this afternoon. Though, this will begin to change as we head deeper into the work week.

A cold front will slowly move through the South Plains Tuesday morning, bringing a slight chance of rain, gusty winds, and cooler temperature along with it. Most of the precipitation looks to stay well north and east of Lubbock, but don’t be surprised if there are a few showers around when you wake up Tuesday morning. Cooler weather only lasts for a day or so, before winds turn southerly once again on Wednesday. This southerly wind will help pump moisture back into the region. At the same time, another cold front will begin to edge into west Texas on Thursday. Moisture,  this cold front,  a developing dry-line, and several minor atmospheric disturbances all spell thunderstorms for northwest Texas, beginning as early as Wednesday afternoon.  The best rain chances will hold-off until Thursday and Friday.

While rainfall is desperately needed, some of the late-week thunderstorms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. There is still a lot of time between now and then, and the forecast may change, but now would be a good time to make sure you are ready for possible severe weather.
