Today will be a bit of a ‘transition’ day across the South Plains. High temperatures will be on the cool side, with values only making it into the lower 70’s. Winds have turned southerly, and will pick up into the 10-20 mph range by this afternoon.
The big change in today’s forecast is the addition of rain chances. Moisture will begin to move back into west Texas over the next few days. At the same time, an area of low pressure will develop well to the west of Lubbock. However, disturbances will move over our area, well ahead of the area of low pressure. The combination of these weak disturbances, afternoon heating, and increased moisture levels will lead to daily chances of isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Though, chances will be very small through the work week.
Today, there will be a chance of showers through early afternoon Rainfall accumulations, if any at all, will be very light. But, by later this today, a few thunderstorms may develop. A few of these storms could contain frequent lightning, as well as gusty winds. A ‘wash, rinse, and repeat’ pattern develops by Tuesday, with at least a 10 % chance of afternoon storms nearly every day this week.
