Women’s Studies Program and V-Day Lubbock Coalition Host Take Back the Night
WHAT: Take Back the Night Rally and March
WHEN: 7-9:30 p.m. Saturday (April 20)
WHERE: Catholic Student Center Parking Lot, Broadway and Avenue X
EVENT: Texas Tech Women’s Studies program and the V-Day Lubbock Coalition host Take Back the Night an interactive event creating awareness, empowering survivors and educating the community about sexual violence.
The free event includes a performance of V-Men, the One Billion Rising flash mob dance, march against sexual violence, a candlelight vigil, a silent candlelight walk of remembrance and drum circle.
Take Back the Night’s supporters have always understood the power of speaking out. Rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse and domestic violence are often labeled “crimes of silence” because of low reporting rates and social discomfort with their public discussion. Survivors of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence and sexual abuse are invited to join the rally and march toward eliminating sexual violence.
