Wednesday’s forecast is a tricky one. To start, winds are going to be blowing out of the southeast, which will help usher in higher moisture levels at the surface. This will lead to areas of low clouds, fog and drizzle Wednesday morning. Then, clouds should burn off by noon; making for a partly cloudy and warm afternoon.
Depending on when cloud cover actually moves out, the Lubbock area should make it well into the 80’s. Warm temperatures will cause windy conditions to develop across the entire area. Gusts over 35 mph are possible. Winds of this magnitude will lead to areas of blowing dust through Wednesday evening.
Then, the big changes occur. A strong late-season cold front will blow through the South Plains sometime Wednesday evening. Timing of the front will be critical, because temperatures will fall quickly behind it. If the front moves in ahead of schedule, similar to last week’s cold spell, Wednesday’s highs may not make it into the 80’s.
Either way, much colder air and strong winds will move in by Thursday morning. In fact, wind chills may be down in the teens as you head out the door on Thursday morning.
Enjoy the mild temps while they last,
Cutter Martin
