Wednesday’s Forecast

Winter is making a come back across the Southern Plains. A strong cold front swept through west Texas on Tuesday afternoon, ushering in much colder weather. An upper level storm system has led to the development of showers and thunderstorms across the South Plains, which will exit the region Wednesday morning.

With temperatures as cold as they are, rain may mix with snow and sleet periodically through the night into very early Wednesday morning. This could lead to isolated slick spots, especially on area overpasses north and east of Lubbock proper. Winter precipitation or not, Wednesday morning will be down right brutal with temperatures in the 20’s and wind chills bottoming out around 10 degrees.

Highs on Wednesday will not warm very much, even after clouds clear out. Lubbock will only top out in the lower 50’s, with northerly winds slowly diminishing through the afternoon. Wednesday night will be very cold, with a hard freeze likely for most of the northwest Texas on Thursday morning.

Make sure you bundle up the next couple of morning. Winds chills will be in the teens and single digits.
