Tuesday’s Forecast

As of 10 PM Monday, a strong  late season  cold front has passed through Plainview and continues to charge through the South Plains. Behind this front, wind gusts over 50 mph have been reported, along with blowing dust.

Heading in to Tuesday morning, gusty winds and much colder air will continue to filter into west Texas. There will also be quite a bit of cloud cover, especially when compared to the sunny skies that we have been spoiled with over the past several days. Temperatures will be in the lower to mid 30’s across Lubbock, but with winds, ‘feels like’ numbers will be in the teens and 20’s.

Temps will warm up Tuesday afternoon, but not very much. Highs will be near 50, as clouds struggle to clear the area. Winds will remain gusty through the day, making it feel like the 40’s.

A freeze is likely on Wednesday morning. In fact, there is some potential for  hard freeze in the city of Lubbock. Remember to cover or bring outdoor plants indoors, to protect them from freeze damage. Also, being this late in the year, it would be a good idea to make sure that all outdoor pipes are properly protected. If you have outdoor sprinklers, remember to turn them off Tuesday night, as spray from these sprinklers will lead to icy patches on roads and sidewalks.
